Click on the pictures below to view our most popular methods in more detail The Standard Hand Swaged method is an ideal balustrade method for the DIY customer, or those who are on a budget but still want a professional looking stainless steel wire balustrade. This method is easily achievable with common handyman skills, and comes with simple step by step instructions. This method can be easily adapted to suit timber or steel posts. All fittings and wire in this method are 316 (marine) grade stainless steel (excludes screws - 304).
Due to new BCA regulations this method in now suitable with 80mm wire spacing FAQ About This Method Can I install this method myself? Yes; even someone with no experience can easily install any of our methods. Do I need any special tools? Other than common handyman tools you will need a hand swaging tool and wire rope cutter. You can purchase a basic hand swaging tool and cutter from Miami Stainless for $45 + GST. What size and type of wire do I use? When doing the standard hand swaged method 3mm 7 x 7 stainless steel wire is almost always used. You can not use 1 x 19 wire as it is too rigid to loop around a thimble What spacing do I need between my wires? When using 3mm 7 x 7 wire you will usually need 80mm spacing (11 runs) between your wires. Click here for more information on balustrade regulations. What is the maximum length run I can do? Around 10 metres using a 5mm bottlescrew. You can achieve runs of up to 20 metres if you put a bottlescrew at each end. What size hole should I drill through my intermediate posts? A 4mm hole through your intermediate posts will allow enough room to thread your wire through. Please note: If you are using grommets the drill size will need to be 11/32" at least 10mm in to each side of your intermediate post. Can I take my wire around corners? Miami Stainless highly recommends that you do not bend your wire around corners; this can cause fatigue on your wire, put excessive stress on your posts, and make it difficult to get the required tension. Can I use this method if I have timber posts? Yes Can I use this method if I have steel posts? Yes you can, however the fastenings to attach the saddles will need to be changed to either rivets or self drilling screws, there may also be a slight difference in price. What do I need to get a quote? To get a free no obligation quote you will need to let us know how many and how long each section of your balustrade is. We will also need the distance between your decking and the underside of your handrail, so we can work out how many runs of wire you will need. You can either email us at info@miamistainless.com.au, call us on 1800 022 122, or fax us at 1800 022 199. How do I order?
